TopDisputes is edited by Roman Buzko and Robert Lynch of Buzko Legal (“we”). This notice explains what personal data the site collects, why, and how you can exercise your rights.
What we collect and why
Forms. When you suggest a case, suggest an edit or send a message, we receive what you write, any link you add, and your name and email address if you give them. We use this to review suggestions, correct case records and reply to you. Each submission is stored in the site’s database on our server, and a short notice (the subject and the name you give) is posted to our internal Slack workspace so the editors see it.
Briefing sign-up. If you sign up for the briefing, we store your email address to send it to you once it launches. No emails have been sent yet. A notice of each sign-up, including the address, is posted to our internal Slack workspace.
Abuse prevention. For every form submission we record the IP address, the time and a short summary, to limit repeated submissions and filter spam.
Analytics. We use Plausible Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not store personal data. It gives us aggregate figures such as page views, referring sites, countries and device types.
No cookies. The public site sets no cookies. If you switch between the light and dark themes, your choice is kept in your own browser’s local storage.
People named in case records
Case pages name parties, lawyers, judges and arbitrators as they appear in public court records, published decisions and reputable reporting. If you appear in a case record and believe something is inaccurate or out of date, use the “Suggest an edit” link on that case page and we will review it.
Legal basis, retention and your rights
We process form submissions and abuse-prevention records on the basis of our legitimate interest in running an accurate public index, and briefing sign-ups on the basis of your consent. We keep submissions for as long as we need them to review and document changes to the index, and sign-ups until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your address.
You may ask us for access to, correction or deletion of your personal data, ask us to restrict or stop processing it, ask for a copy in a portable format, and withdraw your consent at any time. You may also complain to a data protection authority. In the Netherlands, this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
