Challenges

Annulment rejected on February 26, 2016. In the EU, the European Commission barred payment as state aid (March 2015). The General Court annulled that decision (June 2019), and the CJEU reversed (January 2022) and held that EU courts cannot enforce the award (September 2022).

Enforcement

United States: D.D.C. judgment of September 2019 ($356.4M). Romania’s bid to reopen it was rejected (affirmed on May 14, 2024). Discovery sanctions of $1.5M (2021), $13.7M (2024) and $5.8M (April 14, 2026). Registered in the S.D.N.Y. in 2025. England: enforcement (2020), details not verified.
